On Creating :: The Problem of Good Taste
If you’ve never seen this interview with Ira Glass where he talks about the problem of “good taste”, then I suggest you drop what you are doing and spend the next 5 minutes with it.
If you have seen it, then you already know it’s worth watching again.
Although the interview is directed at would-be reporters (“podcasters”), the message holds true for any artist attempting to master a new medium. The other pieces from the interview are equally as inspiring and you can see them here, here and here.
That said, this is the one I keep tucked away in my bookmarks for any creatively rainy sort of day - the kind where your physical skill level just wont seem to catch up to your vision - and it helps to have Ira Glass there to tell you that your biggest problem is also the thing that will make your work exceptional in the end. — Bri
